Huge day with the wake up call yesterday which culminated in the tv3 coverage at
http://www.3news.co.nz/Key-and-Smith-wont-budge-on-climate-change-d... - we were stoked to see the 350 logo so prominently displayed.
We had maybe 200 people at the event phoning parliament and our website traffic for the day was triple what it normally is, below are some numbers to give you an idea of what it took to make this happen.
2000 flyers dropped at vic uni on the morning of the event
Interview with radio active at 11 am
push on twitter with maybe a dozen retweets on the morning of the event
txt tree launched on saturday going out directly to ~600 ppl - no idea of how many were forwarded on
press releases went out on friday afternoon and sunday evening
email to 400-500 wellingtonians on friday evening (lots of forwards through different networks)
I was working pretty hard out on the event for most of last week and Aaron and the media team jumped in at the last minute and I'd estimate the total work at 60 - 100 hours of organizing and promoting time (for everyone).
Not to mention continued global support from AVAAZ who sent out about 3-4 emails in the lead up to the event.
It's always touch and go with these sorts of events and it's hard to know whether the media (or participants) will be interested - I think the key to getting the tv3 news coverage was Nick Smith choosing to respond, if he hadn't i suspect it would have been buried.
