Hi there

Ive updated the www.350.org.nz/christchurch website finally, with brief news of 24 Oct events plus some photos. Sorry it took so long, was at work on the West Coast most of last week and didnt manage to locate the photos on the www.350.org website till I got back.

The whole lot of photos can be found at www.350.org, click on Flickr and it will take you to all the photos round the world. You can locate ones for Christchurch (or Geraldine etc) by typing the placename (or other key word) into the Search box at the top right and clicking on it.

NB this Thursday 5 November 5.30pm - 7pm at the Dux de Lux in Montreal St - social meal, debrief and plotting whats next. Be great to see you there!

Cheers

Heya Torfrida,

Just to add to what you said re the plant giveaway - they're 350 vege seedlings in pots, rather than 350 potplants. Sorry if that disappoints some people [grin].

All the activities sound fabulous!

Cheers, Jo.

Hi,
Heres a brief update on whats happening:

New Brighton pier - we've decided to do the pier banner action at 12 noon (not 9am). Gives time for Southshore Spit dune planters to come back into New Brighton. Planning's going ahead fast for the banner: "There is no Planet B - Climate Action now!". Several speakers confirmed. We'll gather on the grass outside the library, hear brief speeches, then walk up the pier for the photo.
Saturday 10 Oct 11am-2pm - drop in at New Brighton Union Church in Union St to help us draw the banner outline (and print t-shirts, banners etc - anything with paint etc!)
Sandra McHughs class at South New Brighton School will be helping paint the banner one a couple of mornings 11am-12noon in the week of 12-16 Oct - contact Torfrida if youd like to help with this (382-0580)

Silent vigil - there's shaping up to be a multi-faith/meditation/qi gong silent gathering outside the Cathdral on Saturdaqy 24 October, probably around 3-4pm when the Cathedral bells are rung 350 times - more details soon

350 potplants - someone is growing and potting up 350 potplants to bring along and give away in Victoria Sq on 24 Oct 2pm - 5pm - yay!

I hear Port Hills Greens are organising 10:10 pledges for the festival - write down how you intend to reduce your carbon footprint by 10% in 2010 - and we're asking all the the MPs, city and regional councillors to tell us their 10:10 intentions.

I also hear someone in the Little River area may be interested in finding others to do a 350-inspired walk in the area - let me know if you live in this area and want to get involved in this and Ill pass it on to her (Torfrida 382-0580)

Climate Change Choir on Saturday 24th October
● Bring your friends & join us at Victoria Square 2.15pm for a massed chorus in support of action on climate change....
Place: the pit in front of Crown Plaza Hotel.
We'll have words printed for you of 3 simple songs
● Let our govt. know that 10-20% by 2020 is just too low & that
to make a real difference 40% by 2020 is what's needed
● For more information email Jocelyn: jyc497@gmail.com

Next 350 meeting is at WEA this Thursay 8 October, 7.30pm. We'll finalise the final poster & flier to go out.
Cheers

What's been happening in Christchurch -

About 100 of us gathered in Cathedral Square on August 20 to launch 350 Christchurch and welcome the 350 Aotearoa travellers by making a big 350 shape.
After speeches from Sustainable Otautahi and other groups, Rik Tindall got us to organise into the 350 numbers, checking the shape out by cellphone with photographers Shane Orchard and Rhys Taylor at the top of the Cathedral tower. A jolly event that was completed surprisingly quickly! Got upstaged in The Press the next day but that was by the West Coast 350 crew, so all good. Lots learnt for next time.

Rhys, Rik and Torfrida spoke at the launches of Age of Stupid at Rialto and Hoyts and we leafletted audiences as they came out, lots of interest. Geoff Walker kept the leafletteing going on later days.

Great to spend time with Aaron and the rest of the 350 Aotearoa crew when they hit Christchurch, leaving us with more resources and enthusiasm.

Whats coming up:
