Here is a link to a free ebook that I got sent about some of the facts and figures around alternative energies that may be of interest to some people. The tone is kind of negative in that it cautions about being overoptimistic, but in my opinion a lot of the data is quite encouraging (its obviously not possible to run on completely solar power, or completely wind, but combinations of these are surely a great start).
