350 Aotearoa

Join the movement

We've been throwing some ideas around for funding future 350 activities in the and I think we've found something pretty exciting which we'd love some feedback on.

Simple form: ask for people to setup small monthly automatic payments tagged with their local 350 group. The local group then decides how they want to spend the money.

Everyone has different feelings about how donations should be spent so your team would be free to decide their own policies - for example some groups like the idea of paying people to work on 350, others would rather to keep everything on a volunteer basis. The beauty of this system is that it's completely up to you.

One of the reason regular APs are so critical is that they provide some budgeting certainty which means we can commit to people and projects over the long term.

The long term goal would be to have hundreds of groups around the country with their own allocated funding but that would be a later development (I'd need to write some fancy code so each group could manage their budget through the website). In the first stage we would aim to setup just 4 groups - Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.

The national team would take a % of donations to cover the administration costs and some things like the website but the rest is at the disposal of each regional team.

What do you think? Would you be willing to put in some time asking friends and family to support 350 with a small monthly donation?
